Salted Caramel Chocolate Pretzel Bark
Ingredients:
1 cup light brown sugar
2 sticks (1 cup) unsalted butter
1 regular-sized bag of pretzels (approximately 3/4 of the bag)
1 (12 ounce) bag of chocolate chips
Coarse sea salt, to taste
Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the pretzels evenly on the pan.
2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Once melted and starting to bubble, add the brown sugar. Stir occasionally and let the butter and sugar meld together until it turns into a smooth and brown caramel, about 3 minutes. Be careful not to let it boil, as this will result in a sticky, unusable mixture.
3. Carefully pour the caramel mixture over the pretzels, ensuring an even coating. Use a spatula to spread the caramel quickly and gently, as it hardens fast. Aim for an even layer across the pretzels.
4. Bake the sheet in the preheated oven for 5 minutes.
5. Remove the sheet from the oven and sprinkle the entire bag of chocolate chips evenly over the caramel-coated pretzels. Return the sheet to the oven for about 45 seconds to allow the chocolate chips to soften.
6. Once softened, remove the sheet from the oven and use a silicone spatula to evenly spread the melted chocolate over the top of the pretzels.
7. Sprinkle the melted chocolate with sea salt to taste, adding a savory contrast to the sweet caramel and chocolate flavors.
8. Refrigerate the pretzel bark for a minimum of 1 hour to allow it to set completely.
9. Once set, break the bark into pieces and serve. Enjoy the delicious combination of sweet caramel, rich chocolate, and crunchy pretzels with a hint of sea salt for an irresistible treat!
